LEAP Africa and the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) in collaboration with MacArthur and Ford Foundation, have called for a new Nigeria and youth inclusiveness in all facets of governance in Nigeria.
The call was made in Abuja, during the official commissioning of a report, and releasing of the documents to the public.
At the unveiling ceremony of the report tagged, “The Nigeria we want” there were also call to action, as government, media and stakeholders role towards implementation was emphasised.
Reeling out what gave birth to the report, Amabelle Uwakanma from Leap Africa cited needs for youth to be accorded a pride of place in a democracy.
According to her, June 12 being the democracy day offered a fantastic foundation to further trigger conversations on youth engagements.
“Nigeria has about 70% Youth who are supposed to be properly engaged and equipped to be change agent, especially in a democracy.
“All they crave is a prosperous nation where all people are secured and happy irrespective. of language and religion,” she said.
In a brief remarks, Chief Executive Connected Development, Hamzat Lawal, noted that the unveiling of the report provided President Bola Tinubu government an opportunity to adopt it and grant at least 10% slot to Nigerian youth to serve in various capacity.
Also speaking, Zainab Haruna described Nigerian youth as talented, saying they deserve to be treated as Stakeholders in order to discourage the ‘Japa’ syndrome plaguing the country.
While advocating that all hands must be on deck, Kehinde Ayeni stressed the need for the report to be used at various conversations until desired objectives are reached.
