President Goodluck Jonathan six years in the office has been described as the most turbulent, with insurgent group declaring war on the country.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the Chairman of Concerned Citizens of Nigeria, Chief Joel Ezugwu, said the insurgent group had waged a terrible war against the country for the period President Jonathan had been in government.
He said: “President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has ruled this country for six years and within this period the nation has gone through the most turbulent period in its history. A strong insurgent group that are affiliated with Islamic terrorist around the world declared war on Nigeria and tried to carve out a portion of this nation as its own.
“Throughout the period that he (Jonathan) is in power they waged a relentless and terrible war against this country. As a result of the war and other variables some political analyst predicted that the nation will breakdown this year.
“But in spite of all this security challenges, Jonathan weathered the storm and Nigeria is still one country. Today he is on the verge of extinguishing this horrible menace of Boko Haram.”
The group appealed to Nigerians to allow President Jonathan, a Southern minority, to serve out his two term based on the provision of the Constitution.
Ezugwu, who is also a member of Board of Director, Upper Benue River Development Authority and former Enugu state governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), berated former members of the party that have decamped to opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), describing them as “men without honour and integrity.”
He said the opposition party presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, was not a democrat “and will most likely not follow the Constitution, which the incumbent President is upholding.”
He said: “Most of the present politicians around Buhari who are preaching change were once within the PDP, they join the opposition when they realise they cannot achieve their selfish ambition. They are therefore not men of honour or integrity.”
