Jonathan to commission 4 Naval ships

President Goodluck Jonathan is scheduled to commission 4 Naval ships on Thursday at the Naval Dockyard limited Victoria Island, Lagos
A statement by the Director Naval Information, DINFO, Commodore  Kabir Aliyu  indicated that the Nigerian Navy recently took delivery of 4 warships.

“These are NN CENTENARY, NN OKPABANA, NN PROSPERITY and NN SAGBANA. Accordingly, the commissioning ceremony  of the ships will  be performed  by President and Commander-in-Chief od the Armed Forces, His Excellency, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Thursday, 19 February 2015.  ”
The statement said: “The acquisition is a landmark achievement for the Nigerian Navy and the Federal Government. The occasion is unique because this is the first time in the history of the Nigerian Navy  that 4 capital  warships would  be commissioned at once. It is a demonstration of the Federal Government’s effort to reposition the Nigerian Navy to meet contemporary security   challenges.”

The statement stressed that the addition of the ships would enhance  the Nigerian Navy’s ongoing and  acknowledged efforts at improving security in the nation’s maritime environment.
