President Goodluck Jonathan last night rewarded the entire Super Eagles team that represented the country at the just concluded 3rd African Nations Championship (CHAN) with a total sum of N30 million.
A breakdown of the largesse as announced by the president during a reception organized for the squad that brought back a third rated medal for the country saw each player with N1m, while head coach Stephen Keshi who was absent at the occasion on vacation with his family in the US,got N1.5 million.
Three assistant coaches also got N1m each; the non-technical officials of the team got N500, 000 each.
Speaking during a brief occasion held at the Aso Villa Banquet Hall in Abuja, President Jonathan, while eulogizing the team for exhibiting high spirit of doggedness especially during their tie with Morocco, assured that his administration would continue to support talented athletes to enable them achieve their desired aspirations as well as do the nation proud.
According to him, “Ordinarily Nigerians will want us to celebrate when we get gold but I think we need to acknowledge our own. I charged to them remain disciplined and committed “to your dream and aspirations. As has been declared by the coach, some of you will eventually be among those to play at the World Cup Finals”.
Among the personalities that graced the event were the Vice President, Arc Namadi Sambo, Benue state Governor Barr. Gabriel Suswan, members of Federal Executive Council as well the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials.
