The Jiwa Emirate Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Wednesday officially unveiled the logo of Jiwa International Festival of Arts and Culture ahead of the grand finale taking place on Sunday 15th December, 2024.
The chairman, Organising Committee, Jiwa Annual International Festival, 2024, Sani Ndanusa, who is also the Uba Doman Jiwa, said at a press conference that culture is the totality of the way of life of a group of people which encapsulates their customs, tradition, festival, marriages, attires, cuisines among other things.
He said the task of protecting every tribe’s cultural identity and transferring same from generation to generation has remained a herculean task that most communities have been dealing with over the years.
He stated further that for Jiwa, an ancient community in Abuja Municipal Area Council, the task of self-preservation is even more challenging due to the extent of the richness of its history that dates back to several centuries.
He said the festival is a reflection of richness of the culture of the people of Jiwa chiefdom and a major item on the cultural calendar of the FCT.
He noted that the festival has also been an avenue for celebrating and honouring prominent sons and daughters of the emirate that excelled in different fields of endeavour as well as other worthy individuals that have contributed to the growth of Jiwa Emirate and the nation at large.
He noted that the 2024 edition of the festival has been designed to consolidate on the gains of the previous editions, particularly with the fusion of the culture of other tribe’s within Jiwa and beyond.
He said the quest for cultural inclusivity will also be reinforced by the presence of foremost traditional rulers across several states of the federation, while several cultural troupes will take turn to showcase their rich heritage.
