Jigawa state Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA), in collaboration with development partners; Department for International Development (DFID), European Union, and UNICEF drilled about 780 hand pumps across the state last year.
Managing Director of the agency, Engr. Labaran Adamu stated this while interacting with newsmen in his office over the weekend, saying it was the responsibility of the agency to supply water to rural and some urban areas of the state.
He said during the time under review, the agency in conjunction within the state House Assembly built 250 toilets in 220 primary and junior secondary schools and public health facilities under constituency projects in the state with a view to boosting water supply as well as to discourage open defecation.
Labaran stated further that the agency in collaboration with EU, NINIGE, WSSSRP also drilled 210 hand pumps at the 30 state constituencies, adding that 210 water collection points were constructed at the cost of N36.945million and linked to electricity urban collection centres of Hadejia, Gumel and Garki under Phase III, saying each water collection point was provided at the cost of N1.3 million.
