Jigawa pension board pays N1.543bn to 609 retirees

The Jigawa State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme Board has disbursed N1.543 billion as terminal benefits to 609 retirees who served for 35 years or reached 60 years of age between August and December 2024.

The board’s executive secretary, Dr. Bilyaminu Shitu Aminu, said Tuesday that the payment was categorised into four groups.

He said the first group consists of 465 retirees who received N1,173,946,287 billion, having reached the mandatory retirement age or 60 years of age.

He added that the second group includes 103 staff who died in active service, with their relations receiving N315,023,121.01 million.

He said the third group comprises 39 retirees who started receiving monthly pensions but passed away before completing five years, receiving N54,193,759.77 million.

He further stated that two beneficiaries who didn’t contribute for five years received N749,010.31, including 15% interest.

Dr. Aminu warned pensioners to beware of fraudsters, saying that the board’s services are free.

He also expressed gratitude to Governor Malam Umar Namadi for prioritising pensioners’ welfare and ensuring prompt payment of pensions and gratuities.

He stated that the board aims to continue providing timely payments to enhance service delivery and support retirees’ well-being.

“The beneficiaries appreciated the governor’s efforts, acknowledging the positive impact of the prompt payments on their lives.

“With this disbursement, the Jigawa State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme Board demonstrates its commitment to supporting retirees and upholding their welfare,” he said.
