Executive Secretary, Islamic Bureau in Jigawa state, Alhaji Yakubu Abbas Yakubu, has said that the state government had set aside N29 million for this year’s Quranic Recitation Competition going on in Dutse, the state capital.
Speaking to reporters at the venue of the 29 edition of the competition holding at the conference hall of the Jigawa State Polytechnic yesterday, the Executive Secretary explained that the amount covered the inspection and screening of competitors from the ward to local government and the state levels as well as the forthcoming national competition in Edo state.

He said the money set aside would also take care of the competition expenses, and the consolation prizes to be given to the winners and other participants among the 224 participants, respectively.
Yakubu also commended Governor Sule Lamido for his wisdom for upgrading the Quranic Recitation competition to the level “it is now.”

He pointed out that among those sponsored by the state government some had already completed their degrees in various universities, including Sudan.
He said: “Among them there are two who performed extremely well that the university in Sudan retained them as lecturers. And even those supervising the current competition are among those sponsored by Lamido.”
He added that prizes would be given out according to the categories of males and females that are participating and who had already recited various chapters “and are going into the last lap of the competition, which is chapter 60.”
