JED honours corps member for fencing facility

Management of Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED) has honoured a corps member, Miss Inemesit Hope, who fenced one of the company’s transformers to prevent it from vandals.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Head, Corporate Communications of JED, Dr Adakole Elijah, on Monday in Jos.

Speaking at the occasion, the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Abdu Mohammed, thanked Hope for the gesture, describing it as ”service to humanity.”

Mohammed, who decried the spate of vandalism of the company’s facilities in the state, said that the gesture would ensure the safety of its facilities.

”The activities of vandals have negatively impinged on the operations of this company toward quality service delivery.

“You have added value to your host community by protecting the distribution transformer from vandals.

”We want to sincerely thank you for this great gesture and we urge you to continue in this stead,” he said.

The managing director called on other corps members in the state to impact positively on their host communities, adding that the essence of the scheme was to promote national unity.

In their separate remarks, the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Commercial Officer of JED, Alhaji Mammanlafia Umar and Abubakar Jimeta respectively commended the corps member for the noble feat she had achieved in the development of her host community.

Other JED officers, who also spoke at the occasion, included the Human Resources Officer, Abubakar Mohammed, and the Head of Regional Operations, Mr John Emeruwa.

In her remarks, Hope, who was visibly elated, said that she had implemented many projects in the state, adding that the gesture was part of her community development service (CDS).

She said the fenced transformer was located at the Dadin-Kowa community of Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

”My desire is to add value to any community I find myself and so, I decided to fence the transformer to prevent it from being vandalised by the unscrupulous elements in the society.

“We know that the facility belongs to the utility company but we are the end beneficiaries of the services provided by the facility.

”Therefore, we should take ownership of it by protecting it for us to continue to benefit from its services,” she said.

Also speaking, a Director with National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state, Mr. Joel Mambula, thanked the management of JED for honouring the corps member, adding that this would spur others into emulating her.
