JAMB to sustain change of course, institution

By Martin Paul Abuja

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) yesterday assured prospective tertiary institution students of its readiness to continue with change of course and institution exercise even as admission procedures continue. Head of Public Relations of the board, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said it was not true that potential students would not change course or institution once the cut-off marks had been announced, adding that the exercise would be on even till the 2017/2018 admission session was over.

He advised candidates not to panic, but take time to make decisions that would be suitable for them, saying: “It is a continuous exercise and we do not intend to close the procedure, it will only close after admission has been concluded. “Th is is so because there are moments whereby candidates who chose a particular institution will not have opportunity there and other one will want to off er them admission.

“If closed, it will be diffi cult to access such off er; all what candidates need do is go back to the portal and make changes to those institutions and access available opportunities. “We want to avoid situation whereby candidates will have multiple admission and will take one and be denied that opportunity.

” Continuing, he said: “When we do that statistics will be strengthened, if candidates choose University of Lagos and later consider YabaTech, the statistic will refl ect the second choice.

“So that when we are giving account of admission of candidate, we will be able to provide accurate statistic and not distorted data we have been dishing out before.” He said the change was imperative for candidates who made mistakes while choosing courses they wanted to study or the institution or university they wanted to apply to. Benjamin explained that the process of changing of courses and institutions could be done with the payment of N2, 500 in JAMB Computer Based Tests (CBT) centres and at other approved centres’
