The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed its readiness to conduct the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode in the 2014 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), earlier scheduled to hold yesterday.
A statement in Abuja yesterday, which was signed by the public relations officer of the board, Mr Fabian Benjamin, assured Nigerians of a smooth exercise.
He said the computer based test is scheduled to take place in over 163 centres in Nigeria and abroad with over 616000 candidates expected to sit for the examination, plus additional 250 prisoners from Kaduna and Ikoyi prisons.
The release further disclosed that the Registrar of JAMB, Professor ‘Dibu Ojerinde, has already described the May 17 date as sacrosanct and had urged candidates to prepare well for the examination.
Ojerinde said: “The Computer Based Test remained the best mode as it provides better platform for candidates to articulate their educational pursuit, eliminates result black-out or incomplete results and eliminate examination malpractice and enhance prompt release of scores two hours after the examination among other benefits too numerous to mention.”
He advised candidates to keep to their schedule for the examination as the examination runs between May 17 and 31. He further stated that the Board was ready to go full-blown with Computer Based Test (CBT) in 2015 UTME, adding that the level of success recorded at the 2013 UTME and the on-going preparation and expansion of Computer Based Test centers would further spur the Board in its quests to sanitise the education sector through Computer Based Test.
