IWD: Gombe to address women needs, challenges – Yahaya

Gombe state governor,  Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has assured women in the state of his administration’s commitment to ensuring the promotion of policies and programmes that will address their needs and challenges.

This was contained in a goodwill message to mark the 2020 International Women’s Day, made available by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to newsmen in Gombe on Sunday.

Governor Yahaya said the occasion was not just a day to celebrate women but to also reflect on the challenges they face and implement workable solutions towards addressing them and removing barriers that impede their success.

He commended the theme of this year’s celebration, #EachForEqual, which seeks to draw attention to the idea that gender inequality is not only a women’s issue but economic and community one.

He said women in Gombe hold key cabinet positions, which is one of the steps towards demonstrating that his administration subscribes to gender mainstreaming and providing ease of access to resources and opportunities, including economic participation and decision-making, regardless of gender.

Governor Yahaya described women as wonderful partners in the onerous task of nation-building, encouraging them to continue to remain positive and be focused as well as use their talents and motherly disposition in ensuring proper upbringing of their wards and contributing to societal growth and development.
