The Director General, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Prof. Oshita O. Oshita, has appealed to corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to co-host the 5th International Africa Peace and Conflict Resolution Conference scheduled for next month.
Oshita made the appeal yesterday at a meeting of the central planning committee for the conference where over 40 scholars from outside and within the country would converge to brainstorm on the place of restorative and community justice in Nigeria and Africa.
He said the scholars drawn from Great Britain, USA, Egypt, Kenya, and South Africa, including the Ministers of National Reconciliation, Bangui, Central African Republic.
“Meetings for the planning of the conference have begun in collaboration with the Centre for African Peace and Conflict Resolution (CAPCR) of California State University, Sacramento, USA and Institute for Peace Studies and Practice (IPSS) of the University of Ibadan,” he said.
He noted that the partners also included the Nigeria Defence College (NDC), Society of Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) in Kano, and UFUK Dialogue Foundation.
In his remarks, Dr Willie Eselebor of the University of Ibadan commended IPCR to have started planning without funds, noting that such sacrifice was remarkable and necessary to ensure huge success of a conference of an international level.
“All hands must be on deck by members of the planning committee and the partners to enhance the image of the government and the country,” he said.
