Secretary General of Traditional Religion Worshippers’ Association of Oyo State (TRWASSO), Chief Fayemi Fatunde Fakayode Monday advocated inclusion of traditional medicine practitioners in tackilng the spread of coronaVirus in Nigeria .
The traditionalists in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan by Chief Fakayode asked President Muhammadu Buhari and state governors without wasting time involve traditional and spiritual solutions in the battle against the killer disease.
Emphasising that the use of modern medicine should not be seen as the only solution to the deadly coronavirus disease, Chief Fakayode stated that traditionalists too are in a better position to be of enormous assistance in the o going fight against the disease through spiritual solutions, saying that spiritual solution should not be ignored but should be handled by the community spiritual leaders.
Chief Fakayode said to rescue the world from coronavirus menace , everybody with the knowledge of the remedies should come forward, adding , ” this is the main reason, traditionalists in the state are coming out to contribute in the containment of the deadly coronavirus in the country.
“As part of measures to curtail the spread from the traditional perspective, people should squeeze ẹ̀fọ́ yánrin (wild lettuce) and ẹ̀fọ́ ewúro (bitter leaves) in palm wine and employ responsibly moderate consumption of it. It can also be rubbed on the body as sanitizer. Also, daily consumption of gúgúrú (Popcorn) is recommended”.
He stated that palm wine consumption is very advantageous in this period, and that some items of great symbolic connotations like Akòko leaves and Tàǹgíìrì pod can be put at the entrance and inside the house respectively to repel the Ajogun, noting that the kind of food that Yoruba spirituality advised in this period of time is corn related.
