The International Alert in collaboration with European Union support to early recovery from conflict and resilience building in Yobe state has organized a multi stakeholder’s dialogue workshop on farmers and herders conflict in communities affected by violent clashes in Gujba local government area of yobe state.
The workshop which took place in Damaturu, drew participants from stakeholders like Miyatti Allah, farmers and security personnel.
The dialogue which was funded by the European Union was aimed at strengthenining mutual understanding between farmers and herders in the communities affected by the violent clashes in Gujba local government area.
Speaking at the workshop, the North-east programme manager international alert, Mary Kachollom Hwyare, said the International Alert approaching to peace building through advocacy, research and dialogue with critical stakeholders to achieve set goals.
“The dialogue is expected to forms an action point towards effectively reduce the cases of farmer / herders clash in the state,” he said .
In his remarks, the Project Manager International Alert Yobe, Mr Williams Ubamago said, the dialogue workshop was organized to strengthen mutual understanding between farmers and herders across the state.
Ubamago revealed that International Alert is working together with alternative dispute resolution committee, SEMA, ministry of humanitarian affairs, and the state protection sector group among others in the state to ensure peaceful coexistence among the people of the state.
He further said, “International alert has since 2019 being rendering assistance to the less privilege, lactating mothers, children in the most affected communities across Northeast region.
“We also engaged Traditional rulers, Religious leaders and other key actors to resolved issues affecting the relative peace in the region”.
On his part, Chairman Miyetti Allah Gujba local government and chairman, Alhaji Haro Abubakar commended the efforts of the International Alert for organizing the dialogue workshop which according to him its apt and timely.
