No fewer than 500 youths on Tuesday staged a stand up rally in Plateau state, praising the military over its success in the fight against insurgency in the North-east.
The group, United Nigerians Against Terrorism, gathered at the Plateau state House of Assembly premises.
They appealed to the indigenes to support the military and President Goodluck Jonathan in the fight against the insurgents.
Blueprint reports that the stand up procession, which was carried out with some members of the civil society groups, with the programme manger of Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme, Gad Shamaki, urged the military to continue to support democracy and to work towards ensuring that all Nigerian territories were recovered and the abducted Chibok girls brought back home safely.
Also speaking, the Plateau state Liaison officer, Kaduna, Redzie Jugo, who was part of the rally, commended President Goodluck Jonathan for motivating the military to be more committed to the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.
Responding, the Special Task Force (STF) Commander, Major General David Enetie, thanked the youths and stressed that the military would continue to do its best to protect the country’s territorial integrity.
Speaker of the House of Assembly, Titus Alams, in his speech appealed to the youth to “come out and vote massively in the forthcoming general elections.”
