Insecurity: PCRC seeks drones, helicopters, others for NPF

Following the spate of one chance, kidnapers and insecurity across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has urged the Federal Government to provide mobility, drones, helicopters, power bikes amongst others for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) so as to be proactive in their line of duties.

The FCT Chairman, PCRC, Dr Rufus Ebegba, who gave made the plea at the just concluded seminar on the “Role of Community in Policing” organized by PCRC, Dawaki, Division in Abuja lamented the increase of insecurity in the country particularly in the nation’s capital is very alarming added that with all these put in place, criminals can easily be tracked.

He said all the security personnel should also be provided with communication gadgets

and citizens must also be sensitized,

He called on the present administration under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in the security sector because the country’s social activities are centered on security as a basis and further urged the government to make security a priority, as a matter of national urgency.

According to him, without security nobody will be safe, nobody’s business can thrive, so you must first secure yourself first and create an enabling environment where businesses can strive so that the private sector can come in. “Nobody will invest in an environment that is not secured and is only security that can encourage private and international investors to come and invest”

He also said that the FCT Minister shouldn’t focus only on demolition of illegal structures but to ensure that there is security put in place across the FCT.

He also charged residents to stand up to security and give adequate information to the police in their various communities when necessary.

Also, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of PCRC, Otunba Bolaji Adigun said all plans are deck to ensure that this sensitization go around the grassroot and every divisions in the FCT.

He said it is the vision of the National Chairman under the leadership of Alhaji Magaji Ibrahim Olaniyan to see that this sensitization is done in every divisions because it will go a long way by bringing in stakeholders in all sectors to come together and chat a way forward in curbing insecurity in the FCT and Nigeria as a whole.

Also, the Chairman of PCRC, Dakwa division, Mrs Charity Edeki said security is every person’s business and all hands must be on deck to ensure a safe environment by working with the NPF to see how the communities can be better policed.

She urged the residents to obey the rules and regulations and also maintain the slogan of “See something, say something” and urged everyone to come together to defend our communities. “If we don’t work with the police, we can’t survive because they are the ones that are trained to protect us”.

Also, the Chairperson organizing committee of PCRC, Nzenwa Ogechi said the program is apt because it important to enlightening the public by assisting the police and know how the community can work hand in hand with the Police to secure lives and properties.

“This is the first phase of this seminar. We intend to include all companies, schools, churches to ensure better advocacy and to assist us have a platform in assisting the police in Dawaki” she said.

Also, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Dawaki division, SPC, Garba Bala said security challenge has become overwhelming and FCT is currently experiencing one chance and spate of kidnapping.

He assured to run an open-door policy where the community can freely walk to his office and engage adding that the community can stand up with DPOs, PCRC and others to identify flash points in the area and speak up to ensure a safe environment.
