Insecurity: Nigeria won’t go back to dark days, COAS assures

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, Wednesday, assured Nigerians that the Nigerian Army will not allow a return to the devastating insecurity that plagued the North-east in 2015.

He stated this during a courtesy visit to Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Government House in Damaturu.

The COAS said he is in Yobe to assess troops, evaluate operational progress, and boost morale in the ongoing fight against insurgency.

Addressing stakeholders, Lieutenant General Oluyede, reassured residents that despite recent setbacks, security will improve. He also revealed plans to deploy additional operational enablers and reinforce troops, emphasizing the army’s commitment to restoring lasting stability.

“Let the people of Yobe state be rest assured that progress is coming, and they have no cause to fear,” he said.

He also called for national unity, saying Nigeria’s survival depends on collective action against insecurity.

“This fight requires everyone’s cooperation, not just Yobe people, but all Nigerians. If we fail, we risk losing our country,” he stated.

Highlighting regional threats, General Oluyede pointed to the escalating crisis in the Sahel.

He said, “The region is ablaze. If we allow the flames to spread south, disaster looms. We must stand strong now that there are great challenges.”

Governor Buni praised the military’s efforts and pledged continued support to ensure peace returns to Yobe and the broader North-east.
