The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara state, calling for urgent federal intervention to restore peace and stability.
In a statement signed by its President General, Yerima Shettima, the group said despite earlier successes recorded by federal troops in combating banditry, the situation in Zamfara has worsened significantly in recent times.
Shettima said armed groups have become increasingly emboldened, launching attacks on civilians, displacing families, and creating an atmosphere of fear and hopelessness. He added that the people of Zamfara were in desperate need of immediate support to restore normalcy to their communities.
The group also criticised Governor Dauda Lawal, accusing him of failing to respond adequately to the worsening security challenges.
“The governor’s inaction, indifference, and lack of preparedness to confront bandits have contributed to the worsening situation,”Shettima said.
The AYCF reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Zamfara, urging all relevant authorities to take decisive measures to end the suffering of residents and ensure the safety of lives and property.
