The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Friday commended the Governor of Kaduna state, Senator Uba Sani, for his leadership style, which has restored peace and stability to the state.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the governor in Kaduna, Idris urged Sani to sustain his governance approach, which he said has significantly improved the political climate in the state.
The minister was in Kaduna to attend the 48th National Council on Information and National Orientation, themed “Enhancing Public Information Management for Inclusive Governance: Renewed Hope in Focus.”
Idris noted the positive changes in the state’s political atmosphere, attributing them to the governor’s leadership.
He said, “We have observed how the political climate in Kaduna State has significantly cooled. For the first time in a very long time, it feels like everyone in the state belongs to the same family.
“The cacophony of voices expressing division, which had persisted for years, appears to be fading. We urge you to keep it this way. Those of us in the information sector are closely monitoring the developments in Kaduna State.
“This is because when Kaduna State sneezes, the entire northern region catches cold. We are deeply pleased with the leadership style evident in the state, and we hope it continues for many years to come.”
The minister also lauded the governor for creating a conducive environment to host the council meeting, describing the initiative as a step toward strengthening inclusive governance.
In his response, governor Sani thanked the minister and his team for selecting Kaduna State as the venue for the event, highlighting the state’s reputation for excellence in learning and information management. He described the meeting’s theme as timely and well-conceived.
Sani stated, “Government is about the people. We are servants of the people, and we must ensure their involvement in decision-making processes.
“Our information management system must be structured to reach different audiences, raising awareness and eliciting support for government policies, programs, and projects.”
The governor further emphasized the importance of citizen engagement in governance, noting that, “In Kaduna State, fostering citizen engagement is a key pillar of our governance agenda.
“We regularly consult citizens on security and developmental issues. Under the Open Government Partnership (OGP), we engage civil society organizations strategically. We also leverage technology creatively and innovatively to ensure transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance.”
Governor Sani also highlighted the National Council’s critical role in the country’s development, saying, “The National Council on Information and National Orientation plays a strategic role in our economic revival efforts. You have the responsibility to devise effective strategies to mobilize Nigerians to selflessly contribute to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s Rescue Mission.
“Another critical task before the Council is addressing the decline in moral values in Nigeria. Moral rejuvenation is essential for reinventing our country and setting it on the path to sustainable growth and development.”
