Inflation rate fell to 24.48% in January 2025 – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has put the country’s headline inflation for the month of January 2025 at 24.48 percent.

According to the rebased  Consumer Price Index (CPI) released on Tuesday, the rate is lower compared to the 34.80 per cent in the month of December 2024.

The Statistician General for the Federation, Prince  Adeyemi Adeniran, explained that the rate were lower because no less than 194 new items have been added to the report while about 300 old items have been removed

Adeyemi said some of the new items added for the rebasing includes Solar Panels, Ayoola Semovital (Food)  Financial services (POS) as well as Insurance.

He gave the assurances that going forward, CPI rebased results would henceforth be  released every five years

He said that the major challenges facing the NBS  during data collations are mostly in the areas of funding for the survey, security and bad roads among several others.

The NBS boss stressed that its report were not influenced by the government.

“No interference from the government in our rebasing exercise, what we usually get from the federal government is purely encouragement,” he said.
