INEC’ll assist Cameron in presidential polls – Yakubu

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu has said that Nigeria’s democracy “is poised help to nurture younger democracies across the globe, particularly in Africa.”
Yakubu made this remark yesterday when an eight-man delegation from Cameroun paid him a visit at the INEC headquarters in Abuja preparatory to 2017 presidential election in Cameroun.

He promised the Cameroonian delegation that Nigeria would be willing to give their country the necessary technical support to enable them succeed in their forthcoming presidential election in Cameron.
The chairman stated such technical assistance has become necessary given the proximity between the two countries.
The INEC chairman told the delegation that “Nigeria’s presidential democracy is second largest in the world, coming after America.”
According to the INEC chairman, Nigeria has one of the most sophisticated and largest biometric register in the world made up of 70 million voters.

He disclosed that the country undertakes both the general and continuous voter registration which leads to the production of Smart Card Readers (SCR) distributed to the individual voters in the 774 local governments and the FCT.
The INEC chairman also told the delegation that apart from the voter registration, the commission also undertakes the function of voter education which it performs to acquaint and carry along the electorate in the entire process.
Earlier the leader of delegation, Mr. Mewoand Erick who is the Assistant Director Communication and Publicity in the Cameron’s electoral body had called for technical support in the cleanup of the country’s voters register, voter registration and distribution of voters card.
