Incredible: Edo family demands members’ presence for dedication to deity

As bizarre as it may sound, the Ekhator family of Arogba community in Benin City, Edo state has appealed to a family member, Miss Acha Ahmed, to bring her daughter, Victory Osagbemweorhe Ekhator, to the community to go through a purification exercise at their ancestral shrine.

In a statement made available to Blueprint in Abuja Tuesday (alongside a police report), signed by the high priest of the family ancestral shrine, Ernest Ekhator, he said that it is compulsory for daughters of the community to be cleansed “to avoid calamities”.

The statement reads: “This publication is to inform the general public that the Ekhator family of Arogba community in Benin City, Edo state is demanding for Miss Acha Ahmed to bring her daughter, Victory Osagbemweorhe Ekhator, to Arogba community to go through a purification exercise at our ancestral shrine. She has refused to do that since 2018.

“It is still mandatory for all our children, home and abroad, including Miss Acha Ahmed, to bring their daughters for purification exercise in Arogba community. This year’s purification exercise is scheduled for Friday and Saturday April 24-25, 2020 from 4.00pm to 7.00pm daily. It is compulsory; to avert calamities in the community.

“For this reason, if Miss Acha Ahmed and other absconding families refused to bring their daughters to Arogba community for this important purification exercise, they will face the consequences of our ancestral curse.”
