In Benue, new governor, Alia, freezes state government accounts

Benue state governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has issued a directive to freeze all government bank accounts.

The announcement was made during his inaugural speech after being sworn in as the governor of Benue state on Monday May 29, 2023, held at the IBB Square Makurdi.

Governor Alia emphasised that a “Post No Debit” instruction will be enforced until all signatories have been replaced.

He said, “May I announce that effective immediately and until further notice, all government bank accounts in all banks are hereby frozen. A ‘Post No Debit’ instruction shall remain in force until all signatories are changed. Any bank that violates this instruction does so at its own risk.”
