Governor Liyel Imoke and the Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, at the weekend, debunked reports that they were at loggerheads over Cross River state Central senatorial seat which is currently occupied by the latter.
Both of them spoke at the weekend in Ikom local government area of Cross River state during Ndoma-Egba’s 2014 Special Empowerment/Constituency Outreach programme where hundreds of people from Central Senatorial District of the state were empowered with various items including vehicles, corn and rice mills and cash.
Ndoma-Egba and Imoke are from the same senatorial district. Prior to their meeting at Ikom, rumours were ripe that although Ndoma-Egba had always indicated interest to return to the red chambers, the Governor was scheming to replace the Senate Leader in 2015 with Hon John Owan Enoh, member representing Etung/Obubra federal constituency in the House of Representatives.
However, the said meeting of the two political heavyweights at Ikom may have helped to cancel the insinuations. To Ndoma-Egba, “the presence of our amiable governor, Senator Ndoma has cancelled the rumour that we are fighting. We will not fight and we cannot fight. We remain best of friends.”
Also speaking, Imoke said: “We have always maintained the peace, and as we go into 2015, we shall continue to maintain the peace. Those who are predicting troubles should know that there is no war in Cross River. There shall be no violence in 2015.”
