Imo VAPP law will boost efforts against violence – CP Danjuma

The Commissioner of Police for the Imo state Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has affirmed that the Imo State Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law 2021 will significantly contribute to combating violence and protecting the rights of individuals.
He said it would provide additional support to existing measure across the state.

CP Danjuma stated this in a press release by the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Imo State Command, ASP Okoye Henry, during the commencement of a one-day statewide training on the VAPP Law 2021. The training, organized by the Alliance for Africa (AFA), was conducted for officers from the Imo State Police Command.

CP Danjuma emphasized the importance of the workshop in enhancing officers’ understanding of the Imo State VAPP Law 2021, stating that this would facilitate its effective implementation and improve service delivery in the state.

Earlier, the Executive Director of AFA, Mrs. Iheoma Obibi, stressed that the VAPP Law is vital for combating violence and safeguarding individuals’ rights in Imo State. She highlighted that the training aimed to enhance officers’ effectiveness in managing gender-based violence (GBV) cases.

Keynote addresses by former member representing Njaba State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Uju Onyedieke Ph.D (Igbo Njaba), representatives of traditional rulers, including HRH Eze Dr. Clinton Uboegbulam, and other dignitaries underscored the importance of the VAPP Law for community safety and well-being.

The workshop included discussions on gender roles, approaches to addressing sexual GBV, an overview of the VAPP Law, and ethical considerations for working with GBV survivors.
