I’m prepared to defend my victory at the tribunal – Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom has said he is prepared to defend his victory in the 2019 gubernatorial election at the tribunal.

The governor, who dumped the APC to join the PDP few months to the elections, said his victory was fair and square contrary to claims by the defeated APC governorship candidate, Emmanuel Jime.

He had defeated the APC candidate at the March 9 governorship election and subsequently in the re-run election of March 23 after polling a total of 434,473 votes against the 345,155 votes garnered by the APC candidate.

Speaking at a thanksgiving service at the NKST Church Agasha, Guma local government area, organized in his honour by his kinsmen, the Nongov Community Development Association, the governor assured them that he was ready to prove at the election tribunal that the votes he got were genuine.

“I will go to the election tribunal and prove to the entire world that my people turned out in their large numbers and voted for me their beloved son and that the votes I got were genuine and I won fair and square,” he added.

He lauded his kinsmen for turning out in large numbers to vote for him, and assured that he would run a people oriented, selfless and purposeful administration.

He urged the people to reconcile with one another pointing out that the time for politicking was over even as he reiterated his call on others who contested elections against him to team up with his administration for the development of the state.

“We have therefore declared a state-wide crackdown on criminals beginning from today.

“Having tackled the challenge from the spiritual realm it is time to go physical and a combined taskforce comprising the military, the Police, Civil Defence, as well as other security agencies will be engaged to fish out these criminals tormenting our people from their hideouts to face sanctions,” he said.
