I’m called to serve as God’s minister, not to become Adamawa governor – Bishop Mamza

The Bishop of Yola Diocese, who is the immediate past Adamawa state chairman of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, has said his calling as a man of God is bigger than being a governor or any political office for that matter.

Mamza made this statement in Yola on Sunday during a thanksgiving service organised to appreciate God for his faithfulness on his life after his successful completion of tenure as Adamawa state CAN chairman.

The cleric denied speculation that he is nursing a gubernatorial ambition and called on the general public to disregard the speculation, as he insisted that he has and will never contest for governor or any political office in his entire life.

“This is very important, especially to the press; I want it to go viral. I just want to make it clear that I am not and I will not contest for governor or any political position in my life. In fact I am not a card carrying member of any political party and I will not be; I only have my voter’s card.

“I’m a Bishop! What will I do with a governor? What am doing is more than the work of a governor; they keep on spreading speculations that I will contest for governor. Even in CAN, they said I am trying to bring somebody as chairman that will work for me, because I am contesting in 2027; that’s not true,” he said.

According to him, the news had gone so viral that people, including his siblings, are calling him from right, left and centre, telling him the same story.

He called on anybody that wants to know that, as long as he is alive he won’t join politics or contest for any political office but will keep on with his good work of serving God and humanity. The cleric then urged those who felt threatened to feel free as he will never contest for any political office in life.
