ILO to launch social protection report 2017 – 2019

The new ILO Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Africa, Ms. Cynthia Samuel-Olonjuwon and the ILO Director of Social Protection, Ms. Isabel Ortiz, will undertake an official visit to Abuja, Nigeria from 10-13 December 2017 to launch the World Social Protection Report 2017-2019.
The Universal social protection is a basic human right essential for advancing social justice, promoting inclusive growth and accelerating progress towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This new ILO flagship report provides a global overview on recent trends in social protection systems, including social protection floors. What are the challenges and opportunities for Nigeria, the ECOWAS regional economic community and the African continent?
In connection with this, the newly appointed ILO Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Africa, Ms. Cynthia Samuel-Olonjuwon, a Nigerian citizen; and the ILO Director of Social Protection, Ms. Isabel Ortiz, will join the Country Director of ILO in Abuja, Mr. Dennis Zulu for the launch of the new ILO flagship report on 12 December 2017.
Ms Samuel-Olonjuwon and Ms Ortiz will also pay a courtesy call on Nigerian Tripartite Constituents and development partners to discuss strategic cooperation and partnerships.
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) Office in Nigeria was established as the First African Field Office (AFO). It came into existence on 14 January 1959 in Lagos, Nigeria.
