Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Ayodele Fayose, has promised to appoint teachers as permanent secretaries and tutors- general if elected in the June 21 election.
Addressing a rally yesterday in Ise Ekiti in Ise/Orun local government, Fayose said he initiated the programme when assumed office in 2003, but expressed regret that the succeeding administrations scrapped the privilege.

He accused Governor Kayode Fayemi of alleged fire-brigade approach in the implementation of educational policy, said this could have a negative effect on the future of the state.

Earlier, Fayose had visited the palace of Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Samuel Adegboye Akayejo, where he officially presented his Deputy Governorship candidate, Dr Olubunmi Olusola Eleka, to the traditional council.

He said: “Governor  Fayemi had insisted that he won’t pay the 27.5 per cent Teachers Pecuniary Allowance nor reverse the Teachers Competency Test, but he now rushed into action because of election and reversed promised  to pay the allowance and also canceled the test.

“This is a matter that deals with the identity of Ekiti. Education is very dear to us in Ekiti and need to be critically assessed before making any sensitive pronouncement. With this, it is clear that Fayemi is neither principled nor versed in the area of administration.”

Describing the All Progressive Congress (APC) as “undemocratic,” Fayose declared that none of the states under the control of the party had enjoyed the conduct of local government election since 2011.

“APC always claim to be democrats, but they are not. A party that has no respect for the people at the grassroots cannot claim to be democrats. A party that has not conducted election for the people in the last five years cannot claim to be democrats.”
He urged the people to reject the party in the coming election, saying that it had failed the people in all facets of the economic sector.
