I’ll continue to promote unity, reconciliation in Rivers –Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has said he would continue to promote peace, unity and reconciliation across the state irrespective of political divide and differences.

Speaking during the 20th Ikwerre Day of Thanksgiving 2019 last Thursday in Port Harcourt, Wike said, “My administration practically promotes reconciliation and unity after the last general elections by withdrawing murder charges preferred against some politicians on the other political divide.

The governor, who was represented by his chief of staff, Engr. Chukwemeka, at the thanksgiving, called on Rivers people to work towards unity and reconciliation, stressing that in unity they would advance the frontiers of development of the state.

“As a government, we have started promoting reconciliation to foster unity. Shortly after the 2019 elections, the Wike Administration extended the olive branch to all opponents. In practical terms, the administration withdrew murder charges on a few politicians,” he said.

Wike also said he was committed to the state-wide roll out of projects across the 23 local government areas of the state, adding that all local government areas had key projects as part of his commitment to inclusive development of the state.

He said his administration had extended the Sakpenwa-Bori to Kono, while work was progressing on the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity Road, adding that the three key flyover bridges in Port Harcourt would be completed in record time to resolve traffic congestion in Port Harcourt.

In a sermon, the president Ikwerre Gospel Ministers Fellowship, Rev Humphrey Nsirim, praised the governor for handing over Rivers state to God, saying, “I commend the Rivers state governor for declaring that Rivers is a Christian state.  This is an important declaration that has opened the state to God’s blessing and direction.

“By this action, Governor Wike is the best governor that has led Rivers state. I will not even dwell on his projects.  We all know the work he is doing. I am more concerned by his declaration that Rivers state is a Christian state.”

The commissioner-designate and permanent secretary, Rivers state Ministry of Information, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, also prayed for the peace and development of the country.

The 20th Ikwerre National Day of Thanksgiving 2019 attracted Ikwerre people from across the Ikwerre speaking local government areas.
