Ikirun bank robbery: Court commits 3 to death by hanging

 

Justice Jide Falola of an Osun state High Court sitting in Ikirun, Ifelodun local government area Thursday  sentenced three persons to death by hanging over 2017 robbery in Ikirun. 

The armed robbers are: Nuhu Jimoh, Ndubisi David and Aderibigbe Oluwaseun. 

The convicts were on 29th June, 2017 arraigned on a ten count charges bothering on conspiracy, armed robbery, murder, illegal possession of firearms, among others. 

The offences contravened the provisions of Section 6(b), 1(1) & (2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap R11 L.F.N, 2004 and Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The prosecution from the Ministry of Justice, Mr Biodun Badiora, called five witnesses and tendered about 30 exhibits against the convicts. 

Seven assorted ammunitions including AK-47 gun Israeli and Russia made and cash sum of N7, 486,300.00k were recovered by the police.

Justice Falola agreed that the prosecution has proofed the case beyond the reasonable doubt and convicted them accordingly. 

Counsels to the convicts, Sunday Atofarati and Ajibade Omoyajowo, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing the convicts. 

Justice Falola sentenced them to death by hanging and ordered the forfeiture of the gun recovered from the gangs to the Nigeria Police. The judge also ordered that the money recovered be forfeited to the Osun state government.

First Bank, Union Bank and Skye Bank were attacked on 12th February, 2016, at about 3:30 pm and many people, including two bank workers and two policemen attached to the bank, were killed in the robbery.
