IGP vows to inspire trust, confidence, cooperation in NPF

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Egbetokun Olukayode, has reiterated his commitment to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) under his leadership to inspire trust, confidence, and cooperation in the communities that the police earnestly serve.

He stated this Friday during a commissioning and hand-over ceremony of a mobile clinic donated by the German Federal Foreign Office and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Global Security Sector Reform Foundation held in Lagos.

Egbetokun thanked the leadership and representatives of the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Gerard Wolff, Commissioner of Police, Arnold Langert (retd.), who also doubles as the representative of the GS Foundation and their team for providing the initiative to the Nigeria Police Force.

The IGP, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector of Police in charge of training and development, DIG Frank Mba, said, “…I welcome you all to this very significant event, marking the official handover of 10 mobile containers to the Nigerian Police Force.”

He said, “Firstly, let me recognise and extend my sincere gratitude to the German Federal Foreign Office, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Global Security Sector Reform Foundation, for their outstanding contributions under the Supporting Police Reform Processes in Nigeria project (SPRPNP). This generous initiative is yet another remarkable milestone in advancing the goals of this critical reform agenda.”

He noted that in 2023, the delivery of 2, 000 capacity mobile barracks significantly alleviated accommodation challenges “not just in our training schools, but also amongst our field operatives.”

“Over 1,500 police personnel, including 600 instructors, have undergone advanced training in contemporary policing practices with emphasis on human rights, ethical policing, and community engagements.”
