IGP restates commitment to personnel welfare

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alhaji Ibrahim Kpotun-Idris, has pledged to continue to accord priority attention to the welfare of offi cers and men of the Nigeria Police. Kpotun-Idris gave the assurance when he visited the country’s Royal Police Academy in Kenitra, Morocco. He was received by the Director of the Institute, Malam Mohssine Habraji, who took IGP Idris round all the facilities in the academy Th e police boss said improvement in the welfare of the policemen was necessary to boost their morale. According to him, training and retraining of policemen will also be given the necessary attention, to enhance their productivity. “Increase in the welfare of staff will boost their morale while training, through capacity building, will enhance their performance.’’ He restated the commitment of the force towards tackling the various security challenges in the country.

Th e police chief added that he would continue to place high premium on training and retraining. Kpotun-Idris explained that he see training and retraining of personnel as a necessary capacity technique for development, added to his fi ve-year experience as Commandants of Mobile Training in Gwoza. While in the institute, the team was taken on inspection tour of its facilities, which included forensic software, fi nger print laboratory, crime scene and the mounted police, who gave a demonstration on crowd control and how best to handle riotous situations.

In a related development, the inspector-general of police also visited the Moroccan IGP in Rabat where he pledged partnership with Morocco for mutual security cooperation. Kpotun-Idris was received by his Deputy, Mohammed Abkari, in their headquarters in Rabat, Morocco. He, however, called for closer cooperation between the Nigeria police and other African countries, in order to ensure eff ective policing of the sub region. “We want to see a crime-free society such that law abiding citizens can always go to bed with their two eyes closed.
