IFAD empowers youth in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi state co-coordinator of International fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Mr Sunday Ituma, disclosed that about 25 youth have been made millionaires through the value Chain Development program of the organization.

Mr Itumo who revealed this on Monday while interacting with Blueprint correspondent in Abakaliki, said the organization has invested a whooping sum of N130 million to support over 1,600 farmer in the state for this fiscal year.

He said: “IFAD trained 25 youths from the 8 benefiting LGAs of the state and gave them seeds which no other person has, now they are selling it.  We bought seed from this people of about 30 million naira. So most of this youths are now millionaires some made 2million, others made 1.5million and all that.

“All this seeds we gave to one thousand six hundred farmers were bought from them. Some of them because of their hard work have been trained overseas, trained in Cameroon”.

“So we have been able to support a thousand, six hundred and seventy farmers across the eight local government   areas participating in the state and we have concluded distribution of inputs to farmers.

“The total intervention based on value both the state government, farmers and IFAD contribution is about N 130 million that is the commitment that have gone to farmers in this season.” He said.
