IED: NEMA organises simulation drill, tasks stakeholders on coordination

Stakeholders in disaster management should continue to have synergy for effective work on the field, acting North Central Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Malam Muhammad Abdussalam, has said.
Abdussalam said this yesterday while welcoming stakeholders’ participants in a one-day simulation drill on improvised explosive device (IED), incident evacuation, held at the NEMA’s zonal office.

Represented by the agency’s Head of Planning, Malam Suleiman Muhammad, the coordinator, said with all sense of sadness the country had had series of incessant deadly cases of bomb explosions experienced in the past three to four years, which had led to loss of innocent lives and properties worth billions of naira.
He said: “Consequently, as emergency stakeholders, it is our desired responsibilities to provide swift and coordinated response in all cases of emergencies.

Abdussalam said there was the urgent need for all stakeholders to always establish, sustained collaboration with a view aim at enhancing networking and information sharing.
“The simulation drill is aimed at enhancing the response time and capabilities of emergency responders, with a view to improve future responses,” he said.

Personnel from the State Emergency Management  Agency (SEMA), the Police, Civil Defence Corps, Road Safety Corps, Fire service, Red Cross, health officials from hospitals as well as uniforms aid groups drawn from Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau states participated in the one-day programme.
