Idris, Marwa, others to headline 2024 advertising industry colloquium

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Chairman/CEO, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, General Buba Marwa (Rtd), founder, Data Science Nigeria, Dr. Bayo Adekanbi, Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Fund (TETFUND), ARC. Sonny Echono are among dignitaries expected at the 2024 Advertising Colloquium scheduled for June 27 in Lagos.

The event which is being organised by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) is expected to be declared open by Alhaji Mohammed Idris who is also the Chief Host.

Addressing the media in Lagos at the weekend, Prof. Rotimi Olatunji, Chairman, AIC 2.0 disclosed that the highly loaded one-day event will be chaired by ARC Sonny Echono, Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Fund (TETFund) while Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa, Chairman/CEO, Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) will be the guest of honour.

He said the programme format for AIC 2.0 is of a pentagon nature as it involves a keynote address, panel discussion session on the theme, and Public presentation of the maiden Edition of ARCON Journal of Advertising and Marketing Communications (AJAMC).

Other highlights of the event he revealed would be a creative advertising pitch competition involving eight tertiary institutions drawn from the six geo-political zones of Nigeria and a job fair.

Rationalising the 2024 Colloquium theme: “Harnessing Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Advertising Education and Professional Excellence in Nigeria”, the Professor of Public Relations & Advertising, and the immediate past Dean, the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Lagos State University, Ojo, declared that since the first industrial revolution, scientific and technological innovations have been major drivers of human development.

“This era is defined by disruptive digital technologies and computational power, including advanced analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), human-machine interactivity, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), the Internet of Things (IoT), and the increased use of robotics and AI in education, production processes, and various forms of advanced engineering across all sectors,” he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, DG of ARCON said the event offers unique opportunities for the fusion of town and gown to critically explore issues and strategies for harnessing emerging technologies for sustainable advertising education and professional excellence in Nigeria.
