Former chairman of Kebbi state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and gubernatorial aspirant, Alhaji Mansur Shehu, has debunked insinuations by some quarters that he was dismissed from the Nigerian Customs Service.
Shehu, who was addressing a news conference in Birnin Kebbi recently, lamented that such allegations were malicious, unguided and a calculated attempt to smear his person, declared that “it was the hand work of enemies who want to tarnish my image to achieve their selfish agenda.”
He said: “Let me make it abundantly clear that in order to put the records straight, I voluntarily retired from the Nigeria Custom Service, my retirement documents are still with me; I left the service in October 1996 and have been enjoying my pension since then.”
He advised politicians to desist from engaging campaigns of calumny and mischief simply because they wanted to achieve a certain advantage over others.
He affirmed that he had declared his intent to run for the number one seat and that nothing would stop him from participating in the race.
According to him, all we need is the continuous support and cooperation of all members as well the larger electorate for the party to succeed in the 2015 general elections.
Shehu advised all those aspiring for elective positions to play the game according to the party’s dictates and shun rumour mongering as the only recipe to maintain the unity of the leading party.
