I am still single and in high spirit – Maimuna Matayarinya

By Aliyu Askira
Kano

Maimuna Mohammed Alias matayarinya is a 28 year-old Fulani beauty from Borno State. If one is meeting this Fulani queen for the first time, you will think she is a half cast, very cute with sexy eyes, beautiful skin and perfect shape to match. The Kannywood actress did her primary school in Maiduguri and later attended Government Girls secondary school also in Maiduguri. When her parents relocated to Kano she enrolled into a private computer school and obtained a Diploma in Computer Studies. Maimuna featured in dozens of successful Hausa hit movies but at a point she disappeared to Cameroon for two years before returning back. Presently according to her she is engaged into many high budged film projects, some of which are out already while others are still in the budding. Along the line she also produced her own films and engaged the services of high profiled actors and actresses. Interviewing Maimuna is not a delight at all, she is not media friendly and very economical with words most times she answer questions with questions. On why in spite of her beauty she is still single, she retorted, ‘must I advertise myself in the papers that I am looking for husband to marry? When the appointed time comes men will come forward and marry me,’ she quipped.
On whether she is into relationship or ever dated a fellow kannywood star, hear her answer: “Are you sure you are serious? Whether I am into relationship or not, it is private to me, or you want me to open my mouth wide and tell you yes we are in love with Mr. A. or I dated Mr. B. in the past? What if they are married and their wives come across the interview? How will they feel?” She queried.

There was a time you disappeared from the scene for two years, did you settle down somewhere?
Settle down? Where? Well I was in Cameroon with my mother’s relations, but I was never married. I am still single and in high spirit.

Are you a half cast?
Paused am I looking like one, I am not, I am Fulani from Borno state, but after my secondary school my parents relocated to Kano I attended government girls secondary school Maiduguri I also have Diploma in Computer studies, as of my age, I am 28 years old.

Since you have been acting for long, especially with your attractive nature, have your male colleagues been harassing you, I mean wanting to take you out, or?
To take me out to where? Is that what you in journalism do among your colleagues, especially female members? You see, in every sector or profession there are bad eggs. We in Kannywood act to create awareness, yet some of us are of questionable character like in any other profession. You claim your duty is to expose vices like corruption and bad governance. Let me ask you. Don’t you have corrupt members?

We are not interpreting film script, we are conducting an interview and as a trained journalist I am the one in charge here, how rich are you?
Whaoow, I don’t have a house, a car, or even a plot, and I never perform hajj, but in the course of shooting films I visited over eight countries, some in Africa and others in other parts of the world.

When you are ready to settle down what qualities would you want your man to possess?
I don’t create human beings anybody that God join me with, short, tall rich or poor as long as he is a Muslim and doing legitimate business I will marry him. He can be from Kannywood, a journalist, lawyer etc but I never dated any one from Kannywood even if I did I will not tell you.

Tell us the most difficult film you ever featured in?
It is called Ina Nuri. The film was produced by somebody from Nassarawa State in fact, it is the film I got the highest pay but, I suffered during shooting I had to fall sick after the film. Funny enough I am yet to watch it.

Most times, when you travelled out of Kannywood to shoot films, you stayed in Hotels, do you feel comfortable?
Very comfortable, or if we travel to a place outside our abode to shoot films, you expect us because we are holy to sleep on the streets, before you secure a house in Kano when you were posted here newly did you stay on the streets, of course you put up in a hotel, what is wrong in putting up in a hotel by the way.

Tell us what you normally do when you are not on location?
I eat, pray; watch films and sleep, because I stayed with my parents, when I was joining kannywood they never objected.
