Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has declared he is still consulting over calls on him to participate in the 2015 Presidential race.
Tambuwal who yesterday accepted the expression of interest and nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC), handed him by his well-wishers, membership which cut across the House of Representatives, professionals, youth groups among others, said he was humbled by the call on him to lead the country.
Speaking at his Maitama District resident in Abuja he said; “I must say that I am moved by this show of love, this show of commitment to the cause of the oneness of Nigeria and progress of the Federal Republic of Nigeria openly demonstrated by my friends from across the divides of this country.
“This talk or question about whether I am interested in this or that has been on for a while. As we are about to round off my consultations, these my friends came in to say we are drafting you into this. I thank you most sincerely for your kind words, for identifying me as such a personality that in your belief possess some of these qualities that the president of the Federal republic of Nigeria is expected to have, and I am humbled by this gesture.
“I must say that this is almost akin to what happened in 2011 after our general election when I left my federal constituency of Kebe/Tambuwal to Abuja and my colleagues in the House of Representatives and several Nigerians in consideration of the need for us to have a stable, focused, progressive House of Representatives decided that I should come and serve as the speaker of the House of Representatives.
“To God be the glory, with every sense of humility we have done fairly well. So far in leadership of the House of Representatives and I am part of what you have identified, the trait of leadership in me is coming from the way we have been able to manage the House of Representatives, therefore I will thank my colleagues, 359 members that have showcased me and have given me the support to get to where I am today, for me to be considered by these very serious well-meaning Nigerians to contest for the most coveted office of the federation.
“Having said this, having heard what you have said, I have accepted to collect this nomination form and go and conclude my consultation and come back to Nigerians soonest on what should be my final position on this matter,” he said.
