HYPREP commissions water project in Ogoni communities 

The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) Wednesday commissioned another water scheme in Ogoni community, as part of efforts to implement the UNEP Report in the provision of portable water.

The project commissioning is coming few months after the Barako water scheme, which was recently commissioned.

HYPREP project coordinator, Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, who led the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal and others to the commissioning ceremony, said the project would ensure the provision of quality water to people of the community. 

The water facilities are located in Kpean in Khana, Korokoro in Tai, Ebubu in Eleme and Terabor in Gokana, respectively. 

Prof Zabbey said the facilities would supply water to neighboring communities while efforts were being made to connect every Ogoni community with portable drinking water.

The environment minister also performed the symbolic planting of mangrove tree at Bomu and also visited the centre of excellence under construction

He said the number of projects running simultaneously under the leadership of the new project coordinator, Prof. Zabbey, is a sign of hope for the people of Ogoni land.
