HYPPADEC awards New Busa N1.2bn water project 

The Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has awarded the contract for the overhauling and reticulation of the New Bussa water project in Borgu local government of Niger state at the cost of N1.2 billion.

The Managing Director HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, stated this at the handing over of the project site to the contractors in New Bussa Thursday.

He explained that the completion of the project would  end the over 20 years water scarcity problem in New Bussa and its  environs.

According to him, “the contract is for a duration of 6 months for completion. However, I want to urge the contractors handling the project to ensure strict adherance to the contract specifications.”

Represented by the Director Community and Rural Development Directorate, Dr Mahmud Mohammed Umar, the Managing Director described the water project as critical to the well-being of the people adding that the communities should support and also take ownership of the project towards it successful execution.

In a remark, HYPPADEC  Director of  Operations, Engr Ilyasu Abdullahi Wara explained that the contract is divided into 7 Lots to various contractors to ensure speedy completion within specifications and duration.

The Niger State Managing Director, Water and Siwage Cooperation, represented by Gimba Isah said that the project would ensure healthy and maximum portable water supply to the masses, urging for support and understanding of the citizens to ensure the maintenance of the project. 

In a goodwill message, the Emir of Borgu Alhaji Mohammed Sani Dantoro represented by the Wazirin Borgu, Alhaji Bala Sa’adu thanked the commission for the actualisation and intervention to end the long water scarcity hardship in the emirate.
