Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (MHADMSD),
Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, has implored the agencies and departments under the ministry for effective collaboration in order to achieve its mandate.
She made the appeal Friday in Abuja during an interactive meeting organised by the ministry for heads of departments and agencies under its supervision.
In attendance were representatives of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and IDPs (NCFRMI), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Department of Social Development of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, National Social Investment Programs, among others.
Farouq said that, following the creation of the ministry by President Muhammadu Buhari on August 21, 2019 set of priority projects for 2019-2020 was assigned the ministry; “which forms the mandate of the ministry”.
She said: “Our responsibilities are many and they are vast. Social protection and inclusion concerns all of us. The ministry is responsible for the wellbeing and welfare of every single Nigerian and some non-Nigerians that are of concern to us. We are essentially the people’s ministry and we take this duty very seriously. Our country cannot achieve its developmental potential if it still has displaced persons living in camps, large unemployment, inadequate protection mechanisms for children, elderly and other vulnerable groups.
“Poverty is a multidimensional construct that includes not just low income, but also poor access to; healthcare services and facilities, livelihood, justice, clean water, sanitation and education. Therefore, I am counting on you to contribute to the achievement of Mr President’s vision and the development of our nation through healthy collaboration, seamless communication and a solid coordination.”
