HRD: 620 persons used PP-ForB toll-free line to curb religious conflicts – SFCG

A non-governmental organisation, Search for Common Ground,  Thursday, stated  that 620 individuals (including 249 women) have utilised the Promoting and Protecting Freedom of Religion or Belief (PP-ForB) toll-free line since its inception in February 2024.

The country director, Fatima Abubakar, at screening of the Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) film: “Bridging the Abyss,” to commemorate the International Human Rights Day in Abuja, said the project which was funded by the Dutch Embassy, is aimed to address conflicts stemming from religious divides and to advocate for the protection of vital human rights.

Abubakar said social media posts on PP-FoRB have reached 68,357 users from January 2024 to date, generating 2,820 engagements (likes, shares, and comments).

She said the project has achieved remarkable progress both nationally and across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

She added that several outcome indicators were set to measure the progress of the PP-FoRB project which reflects changes in participants’ satisfaction, knowledge, and access to critical information, among others.

“Key indicator of the project’s impact is the reduction in conflict-related deaths associated with religion in the targeted states. With an initial target of a 3% reduction, the baseline figure of 32% dropped to 27% by the midline, achieving a significant 5% decrease.

“The percentage of target participants reporting improved satisfaction with relevant support services significantly surpassed the initial target of 10%, achieving an impressive 50% at the Midline,” she said.
