House of Representatives members clash over Rivers crisis

Two female members of the House of Representatives, Hon. Marie Ebikake and Hon. Blessing Amadi, were on Wednesday enegaed in hot verbal exchanges prior to the day’s commencement of plenary.

The development was occasioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proclamation of State of Emergency in Rivers State the night earlier.

Ebikake and Amadi, who represent Brass/Nembe Federal Constituency of Bayelsa, and Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency of Rivers State respectively, started the argument when members walked into the chamber in preparation for the plenary.

The two lawmakers were among other colleagues, apparently discussing the Rivers crisis when they suddenly started a shouting bout and pointing of fingers at each other as repeated “get out” could be heard from them.

However, their colleagues quickly intervened to calm the situation.

Spokesman of the House, Hon, Akin Rotimi had in a statement on Tuesday revealed that President Tinubu briefed the leadership of the National Assembly before he proclaimed the State of Emergency, assuring that the parliament will do justice to it.

No issue around it was however mentioned until the House adjourned plenary on Wednesday.
