House invasion: Town unions queue behind Ebonyi gov

The Association of Urban Town Unions in Ebonyi has urged Governor David Umahi not be deterred in promoting national unity in wake of his Abuja residence’s invasion by suspected policemen.

President General of the association, Mr Ifeanyi Nwabueze, said after its meeting, that such invasion negates the quest for national integration which leaders such as Umahi promotes.

Nwabueze said that the association which comprises over 150 town unions across the diverse ethnic groups in the country, joined well meaning Nigerians to condemn the invasion.

“Non indigenes in Ebonyi can attest to Umahi’s accomodating posture as he has eliminated the non-indegene dichotomy and treats everybody as one.

“Several non-indegenes from the southern and northern parts of the country are curently holding governmental positions in the state and are not discriminated against in governance.

“The governor has been a strong promoter of the Igbo cause and the peaceful co-existence of all segments of the country, in achieving natonal unity,” he said.

He said that as the grand patron of the urban town unions, the association will identify with the governor at this period because he does not joke with its weelbing.

“Nigerians are no longer safe if such a highly placed leader in the country with constitutional immunity covering him, would have his residence invaded.

“We urge the Federal Government to urgenty investigate the matter and bring all the perpetrators to book,” he said.

Nwabueze warned that if such incidence occurs again, the association would take actions to express its discontentment.
