The emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari can easily be described as selfless determination and human doggedness. He fought relentlessly at several elections, and went through the court proceedings hoping to understand the reason why he could not overcome the overly pronounced political obstacles nicknamed ‘enemies of political progress’. Buhari is neither naïve nor inexperienced. This president acted in various capacities such as general officer commanding, governor, and minister of petroleum and most importantly, a former military head of state.
The president has been faced with grand and scathing criticisms from the late appointments of ministers to nepotism, sectionalism, anti-Christians, hatred for the Igbos and heavy handedness of the IPOB leader and followers, handling of the Fulani herdsmen/ farmers clash with unequal force, unparalleled fight against insurgency, corruption, intimidation and lack of respect for court orders. In all these mentioned there could be fundamental errors, the president must as matter of urgency revisit such outcries and correct the gruesome anomalies identified.
The president must strengthen the institutions, allow credible individuals with impeccable characters and competent acumen to manage the institutions and rid self of political liabilities and sycophants.
In my opinion, the president should be supported to have another 4 year term to consolidate; well most people may disagree, but state the alternative to President Buhari.
On a lighter mood, Mr. President if by His Grace you win the 2019 election, which I obviously trust that you would, I would be requesting from you the urgent expansion of psychiatric hospitals in Nigeria to curb the unhealthy tantrum often displayed by our mature politicians with commonwealth of Nigeria.
There has always been corruption in Nigeria, which has been the most adopted reason for every military coup right from Independence. Growing up in Nigeria as a child, I enjoyed family love, freedom to move around the country with my parents etc. We enjoyed receiving the Fulanis in our communities and our compounds. We shared drink of water and sometimes food, they never killed us, and our farms were never ravaged by their cattle. There was mutual respect and friendliness, same as the Yorubas that sold their woven clothing; they were like uncles and fathers to us.
Today, we are faced with much hatred for one another, we are afraid, we are filled with anger and we kill one another without realizing that we once lived together as brothers and sisters.
The government of Buhari is grappling with these vices and struggling to contain them, but the agents of Darkness are hell bent to use them to undermine the goals set out by the president for this nation. The forces that are against the unity of Nigeria are already at work and will never give up in their quest to achieve their aim, but such forces of darkness shall never be allowed to materialize.
The Nigeria democracy witnessed a dramatic turn with President Buhari’s recognition of June 12th and the winner of the June 12th general election, Moshood MKO Abiola. This singular action closed the dirty actions of the generals and open a new chapter in the political advancement of our great country, Nigeria, a united nation ready to move on to greater heights.
