Hon. Nwachukwu receives Ebetete Okporo ancient kingdom delegation, applauds Uzodinma

Restates commitment to deliver democratic dividends.

It was indeed a day to remember on the 10th, May 2024 at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja when a high powered delegation of the corporate, professional, academic, technocratic and business elite from Ebetete Okporo Ancient Kingdom in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo state paid a courtesy visit to their resourceful House member, High Chief Omeogo, Ogbaturuenyi Na Orlu, Hon. Canice Moore Chukwugozie Nwachukwu, Chairman House Committee on lnter-Governmental Affairs and Member of the 6th ECOWAS Parliament.

The delegation thanked Hon. Nwachukwu for the consistent delivery of democratic dividends he has been spearheading since his auspicious election to represent the people of Orlu/Orsu and Oru East Federal Constituency of lmo State in March 2023. The delegation also appealed to him to continue to seek ways of resolving the insecurity situation plaguing their constituency as well as other parts of the state and the Southeast region as a whole. They also presented numerous gifts to Hon. Canice Moore and some other persons.

Also present at the occasion to show support and solidarity to the High Chief was Hon. Mascot Ikwechegh, House Member representing Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency of Abia State and Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha, Chairperson Imo State Caucus of the House of Representatives.

High Chief Canice Moore expressed his deep appreciation for the historic visit and pledged to continue with his untiring efforts at delivering crucial dividends of democracy to his beloved people: ‘l am very happy because they are my blood, they are my people, they are the people that sent me here, if anything happens to me, they are the first to ask what happened to me. So coming here to the National Assembly from faraway Ebetete Okporo Kingdom, lmo State, some came from abroad, some came from Lagos and all the nooks and crannies of the country and coming to Abuja to see me, their brother, their son, their political ally, is something good, it is something worth seeing. It is historic because charity begins at home. If you are a powerful person and you are not recognized by your people, by your village, by your community, your town, then you are a nobody. So my people have demonstrated and displayed love, that they truly love me and they believe in me. And they have identified with me, that l am their own and will always be theirs forever. We achieved a lot, l cannot even explain the level of achievement recorded today because it is a historic visit.

I achieved more bonding, more fraternity, more unity, more love, l am seeing some of my people that l have not seen for a long time. I saw Mr Edwin Unodim, my classmate when l was in primary school whom l have not seen for a long time and l never knew he resides in Abuja. I have seen Bekee, my boy whom l have not seen for a long time. This visit is a kind of platform for a grand reunion and l am excited and will always be happy about that.

High Chief Canice Moore also lauded the Executive Governor of lmo State for making it possible for him to serve his people in this capacity and praised the House Speaker for his support and mentorship: ‘l salute my boss, my leader, my mentor, who is the Most Distinguished Senator Hope Odidika Uzodinma, the Executive Governor of lmo State and the Governor-General of the entire Southeast region who by the grace of God and through his instrumentality and body language persuaded each and everyone of us here and at home to vote for me, to bring me here.

I did not come to the House of Representatives by my own power or by my strength or by my capacity or sagacity but by the instrumentality of that great man, my leader, the Executive Governor of lmo State, His Excellency , Sen. Hope Uzodinma. Then of course we are grateful to the leadership of the House in the person of the Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, Dan lyan Zazzau who has taken me as his brother, to be part and parcel of the House. He has been there for me guiding me as the House activities unfold.

I am indeed immensely grateful for his love, support and encouragement’ The visibly overjoyed federal lawmaker also had kind words for his House colleagues that turned up for the occasion:

“l also wish to extend my profound appreciation to my brother, ally and close confidant, Hon. Mascot Ikwechegh, the formidable legislative titan representing the great people of Aba North/ Aba South Federal Constituency of Abia state for his presence, support and solidarity to myself and my people on this historic day. We are brothers, allies and colleagues in politics since over two decades and l salute his eloquence, wisdom and sagacity here today. l will also recognize with great pleasure the presence of the leader of the lmo State Caucus of the House of Representatives, my sister, Nwanywuihe, Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha, it is by virtue of her instrumentality and that of the entire leadership of the House that we are what we are today in this 10th Assembly.

On the broader issue of insecurity, High Chief Canice Moore assured his people that efforts were ongoing to tackle the issue holistically: ‘Yes, the issue of insecurity is now a social menace, a worldwide problem, it is happening in the United States of America and all the nooks and crannies of the world and Nigeria has not been spared. Of course in Imo State, we have been tackling insecurity vigorously, kudos to my courageous governor, His Excellency, the Most Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma who saw it ab initio when it started and he has been fighting insecurity ever since and has achieved a lot. But then we have to give impetus and augment what he is doing so that insecurity will become a thing of the past.’ – Hon. Canice Moore Nwachukwu concluded.

Hon. Mascot Ikwechegh held forth on the significance of the visit and the role been played by Hon Canice Moore Nwachukwu in advancing the House agenda as well as as ensuring his people’s welfare and wellbeing: ‘Normally, constituents visit their political leaders to collect cash, gifts, food items and provisions but we can see that the constituents from Ebetete Okporo Kingdom that paid this august visit to High Chief Hon. Canice Moore Nwachukwu brought their own gifts to him.

Hon. Canice Moore is a wonderful person, he is a very popular lawmaker in the National Assembly, he is a very gregarious member, quite sociable, highly prolific and very diligent in the duties for which he was elected to serve. I am extremely pleased to be here and every word l said in the hall today, l meant it and will say it again if given the opportunity. Hon. Canice Moore Nwachukwu is doing well, he is competent, dynamic, resourceful and has a sense of compassion and call of duty that is making him a wonderful and remarkable representative of his dear people. I wish him well,” Ikwechegh stated.
