Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state has described youth unemployment as a serious developmental challenge that requires a holistic approach.
He made the remark at the graduation ceremony of the first batch of 170 women and youths who were trained in capacity building and Empowerment programme in Kano on Wednesday.
The training programme was conducted under the restructured Commercial Agriculture Development Project (CADP).

Ganduje, who was represented by the Commissioner of Agriculture, Dr Nasiru Gawuna, urged the three tiers of government and development partners to work towards reducing the high rate of unemployment in the country.
“Unemployment is a serious threat to security and development not only in Nigeria, but in the whole of Africa and the world,” he said.

According to him, there was a limit to what government could do to reduce unemployment in the country; hence the need for wealthy individuals to come in.
He commended World Bank for introducing women and youths Empowerment programme in the area of agribusiness.
The governor noted that agriculture sector remained the only option for ensuring food security in the country.
H, therefore, urged the trainees to make the best use of the knowledge they acquired in order to boost food production in the state and the country at large.
