Worried by the recent herdsmen/farmers clash in parts of the country, the National leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has commenced a nationwide tour of the country to mobilise members on the need for peaceful coexistence.
National President of MACBAN, Alhaji Muhammadu Kiruwa, made this known while speaking to newsmen yesterday in Yola.
Kiruwa the team had so far visited Nasarawa, Benue, Taraba and Adamawa states where it held meetings with governments and other stakeholders.
“We have visited Nasarawa, Benue, Taraba and today we are in Adamawa.
“In Benue, we sat with the governor who linked us up with Tiv representatives. We also had fruitful deliberations with the governors and people of Taraba and Adamawa.”
The president said MACBAN would commence nationwide registration of its members who would be issued identity card as a way of checking bad eggs.
Kiruwa lauded federal government plan for grazing reserves and said members would accord the plan maximum support.
“I want to commend the Emir of Muri in Taraba state whose emirate has gone far in a programme of selling land for ranch to herdsmen. A land of 20 hectares goes for N600, 000. That’s affordable for a herdsman.”
He also lauded Governor Murtala Nyako for taking the initiative to showcase his ranch in Sebore Farms to herdsmen so as to encourage them on ranching.
“We have to embrace ranching not only for our security but for maximum benefit of livestock business.”
